3000 days … and counting …

This is a major work about climate change which I began in 2022 and which will not be completed until 2030.

The Scrolls started as no more than a personal challenge;  however, I quickly found that this artwork had a meaning for many people far beyond anything I could have anticipated.

Why?  The particular trigger for this work was the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report, published at the end of 2021, which said:

• we need to keep global temperatures below a 1.5 degree Celsius (or 2.7 degree Fahrenheit) rise by 2030.

I thought about 2030 … and at that time, 2030 was 3000 days away.

What could I do?  As a botanical artist, I believed that my role was clear, and I set myself a challenge:  to do a drawing a day for the next 3000 days to highlight this issue.  This personal protest I would call “3000 days … and counting ...”

How?  My supplies are very simple – watercolour paper, ink pens and watercolour paints.  All the drawings are done in pen – not one plant has been pre-drawn in pencil.  Each scroll is around 10 metres in length, and 37 cm high.

• As of July 2026, I have completed over 1600 drawings over 1600 days on 50 metres of scroll.
